Memory Foam Matress | JOOVE Article PortalThe memory foam matress was developed by NASA in an effort to provide support and comfort for the astronauts during their lift off period. After memory foam was developed, a Swedish company began marketing it for consumers. Eventually, large companies began to see the value of memory foam beds and started to manufacturer them in North America. Memory foam products have been growing steadiy since. They have become more affordable, more available, and endorsed by many doctors and chiropractors. Not all memory foam mattresses are created equally. One memory foam matress can differ greatly from another. The density, indentation load deflection, resilience and tensile are some factors that determine the quality of a mattress. The denisty is determined by how much chemical the manufacturer uses. Many memory foam mattresses have a density of 4-5lb, but there are some out there with 2-3lb density. It really depends on personal peference. ILD or indentation load deflection is how firm or soft the memory foam is. The higher the ILD is, the more firm the memory foam will be. Resilience measures the spring in the mattress. It is tested by dropping a steel ball onto the mattress. Normally, the higher the resilience, the more durable the foam will be with forces of compression. Tensile measures how much the foam can be stretched. This measurement is less of a factor because most people are concern about the compression and not the stretch of the mattress. It's no secret that a memory foam matress does have an odor. This is caused by the chemicals used to develop the visco-elasticity. The odor is temporary and after the mattress is ventilated, the order willl eventually disappear. JOOVE uses BASF materials, which greatly reduces that memory foam odor. This advanced process makes JOOVE products much more desireable for those sensitive to strong odors. Many chiropractors and doctors recommend a memory foam mattress because of their superior back support. More and more people are learning why a memory foam bed can increase your quality of life. If you want to make a change in your life that will increase your health, try a memory foam mattress. You won't regret it. |
